    Federal highway safety officials released data this week showing Georgia pedestrians are dying at rate 25-percent higher than the national average. Figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show, Georgia's pedestrian deaths have jumped to 168 -- a 13% increase since 2001 -- even while driver deaths have gone down.

    Congressional candidate Wright McLeod wants last week's election results tallied again. The former Naval officer fell 584 votes shy of making it into a GOP run-off in Georgia's 12th District. McLeod asked for a recount Wednesday, a day after Secretary of State Brian Kemp's office certified the results.

    Tybee Island city council members are looking at ways to keep the coastal city dry as sea levels rise. The city this week held a three-day workshop about its options. Residents who attended were asked to prioritize their concerns about rising sea levels. Federal guages have documented a rise of about 10 inches at Fort Pulaski since 1935.

    The Georgia Department of Corrections is moving more than a dozen prison officials. The changes affect prisons across the state but are being called routine. The Department has named eight new wardens, six new deputy wardens and two new superintendents in a total of 13 facilities.

    State agencies are weighing their reponses to another order to cut. Governor Nathan Deal is asking department heads to come up with another half-billion-dollars in reductions for next year's budget. The cuts are larger than last year's and represent the fifth straight year the Governor's office has asked for cuts.
