Fulton County election officials are planning to meet amid criticism of their handling of the vote count from last Tuesday's election. Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp said he was concerned about what he called "numerous and substantial issues" surrounding the administration of the election in the metro Atlanta county.
Election results from the Georgia Secretary of State show that nearly 73 percent of voters in Cobb County approved Sunday sales in unincorporated areas of the county just northwest of Atlanta. About 75 percent of voters in Fulton County had approved the measure with most precincts reporting results.
A law enforcement official says the FBI has arrested four people who worked at the Fulton County Jail. The official told The Associated Press the four were arrested Thursday morning at the Atlanta complex. Anonymity was requested because the official was not authorized to speak publicly.
A Fulton County judge has temporarily halted the execution of an inmate while she considers his challenge to Georgia's recent switch to a new legal injection drug. Roy Willard Blankenship was to be executed Thursday for the 1978 murder of a Savannah woman. It would be the first in Georgia using pentobarbital as part of its three-drug combination.
A report by federal monitors says foster children in Fulton and DeKalb counties are being abused and neglected at the highest rate in four years. The report found that 25 of just over 21-hundred children were abused or neglected.
