Supporters and opponents of the Troy Davis execution squared off across a street from each other in Jackson. Ultimately, by the time Davis died, police in riot gear outnumbered the vocal demonstrators. Many came from far-off parts of the state to stand with one side or the other. Police reported few incidents with the demonstrators and the sizeable media contingent.
