The Fayette County Board of Education has voted to close four schools in the face of a $15 million budget shortfall. The vote came during a meeting Monday night in which officials said the district would only save about $4 million even with the school closures taken into account

West Georgia's Talbot County is the latest poor, rural county to rank as the state's "unhealthiest." The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute have put out nation-wide, county-by-county health rankings for the past three years.

In an important Region 2-AAAAA clash Brandon Addison preserved the victory for undefeated Stephenson on the game’s final play, as the Jaguars defeated East Coweta 24-17. With East Coweta inside the Stephenson 10-yard line, Addison sacked the Indians' quarterback.

A new report says, some Georgians now are living a decade shorter than others, depending on where they live. Researchers looked at longevity over a 20 year period. While people in Southwest Georgia's Calhoun County still live the state's shortest lives and people in Metro Atlanta's Fayette County still live the state's longest, the gap between them grew -- by a year for men and three years for women.

A new report finds, Georgia counties are just about as healthy as they are wealthy. It's from the annual County Health Rankings by the University of Wisconsin and the R-W Johnson Foundation. The study paints a map of Georgia that strongly links health factors like obsesity and smoking to lower-income areas where people are less educated and underemployed.

The Douglas County Lady Tigers were on a roll coming into the Class AAAA semifinals, winning 30 consecutive games including a big win against Miller Grove in the semifinals. However, Forest Park had too much experience and came away with a 56-47 victory.
