The Georgia Department of Transportation last week signed a contract to build the last nine-or-so miles of the Fall Line Freeway. Communities along the route are hopeful better access via the four-lane highway will mean new growth and new companies come to their areas.

A new report ranks Savannah harbor expansion as the state's top priority for improving cargo traffic. The state Transportation and Economic Development departments this week released an analysis that's being called Georgia's first comprehensive freight and logistics plan. The report stresses the link between ports and roads.

The Fall Line Freeway will eventually connect Augusta with Columbus. No decision yet on portion of the road that will go through Middle Georgia. Nine miles of road and a bridge over the Oconee river are still unfunded.
