Georgia law enforcement authorities say 19 fatal crashes occurred in the state during the recent Thanksgiving holiday travel period. The Department of Public Safety reported the numbers early Monday, after the 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended late Sunday night.
The state Department of Corrections is hosting a military personnel job fair Wednesday at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth. The agencies have approximately 800 jobs available for military personnel returning from duty.
The Georgia Public Safety Department is going into the Memorial Day travel period with fewer state troopers than the agency says it needs. But officials are promising vigorous traffic enforcement and a return to normal staffing levels. Troopers say, drivers shouldn't take risks because of the shortage.
Savannah city officials didn't get the answers they wanted at a public hearing on a proposal to truck liquified natural gas through the city. It was the second meeting in three months on a plan that could send up to 58 trucks a day loaded with hazardous LNG through city neighborhoods.
