Nearly 1,100 Georgia preschool teachers are getting an extra few hundred dollars this week. The checks are worth between $250 and $1,250 for early childhood educators who have furthered their education by earning a new certificate or a new degree.

State records show that Georgia day care workers left children in vehicles 57 times over the last five years. Department of Early Care and Learning Commissioner Bobby Cagle said one instance is too many, but the 57 violations represent only a fraction of the 6,686 child care providers throughout Georgia.
