Gay rights activists and other supporters of marriage equality plan a national "Kiss In" at Chick-fil-A restaurants Friday to protest the fast-food chain owners' opposition to same-sex unions. The gatherings come two days after hundreds of thousands of customers recognized "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."
Chick-fil-A supporters are eating at the chicken chain's restaurants as the company continues to be criticized for an executive taking a public position against same-sex marriage. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister, declared Wednesday "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."
All of a sudden, biting into a fried chicken sandwich has become a political statement. The latest uproar in the nation's culture wars began earlier this month when Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy said he was against same-sex marriage. The Cathy family has never hid from its Southern Baptist views, closing its restaurants on Sundays.
