    Cumberland Island's top official says investigators believe a 43-acre wilderness was started by a person, but they do not suspect it's a case of arson. Island Superintendent Fred Boyles declined Wednesday to provide details on the investigation into the fire that's been burning for the past week on the island off Georgia's coast. He says the investigation still isn't complete.

    High surf from Hurricane Irene this weekend washed away more than sand. The endangered loggerhead sea turtles were near the end of their nesting season when the storm lashed the beaches. Turtle-watchers spotted numerous examples of nests that just disappeared after Irene.

    Visitors to Cumberland Island can request van tours to the island's remotest sections starting this week. Congress mandated the tours in 2004. National Seashore superintendent Fred Boyles says it took the park service seven years to begin the tours because officials had to put the van tours through a lengthy review process.
