State labor officials say Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has dropped to 8.2 percent in April. That's down from 8.4 percent in March, and 9.1 percent a year ago. Georgia employers created more than 31,000 jobs in April.

Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 8.4 percent in March, the lowest rate since December 2008. That is down from 8.6 percent in February, and 9.1 percent in March a year ago.

Georgia's seasonally adjusted jobless rate for February was the lowest since January 2009, down to 8.6 percent from 8.7 percent in January. The Georgia Department of Labor announced the February numbers early Thursday.

Georgia labor officials say the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has risen slightly to 8.6 percent. The December figure is up one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.5 percent in November. The rate was 9.4 percent in December a year ago.

State labor officials said Thursday morning that Georgia's seasonally adjusted jobless rate declined to 8.5 percent in November. State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said that is the lowest state unemployment rate in nearly four years, since it was 8.5 percent in January 2009.

Georgia’s unemployment rate held steady last month at 9.2 percent, the same as July’s seasonally adjusted rate. Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the state’s labor force is growing as more people resume their job search and the number of jobs is increasing.

Georgia’s labor commissioner is refusing to restart jobless benefits to seasonally unemployed teachers and bus drivers, setting up a showdown between state and federal officials. The U.S. Labor Department said last month that Georgia was violating employment law by denying the benefits.

Georgia's jobless rate rose to 9.3 percent in July, which is up from 9 percent in June. Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said a main reason for the increase is a large number of temporary layoffs in manufacturing.
