State soccer tournaments are underway throughout Georgia, so playoff fever will be prevalent on the pitch over the next two weeks. Leading the charge is Collins Hill, which is looking to become the first boys team to win three consecutive state championships in the highest classification.

Bud Hennebaul and Pete Fritts know their wrestling. After all, they’ve been been involved with the sport since their childhoods. Hennebaul was a five-year-old beginner in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. where his father was running the local youth wrestling program at the YMCA.

High school soccer season kicks off with many familiar names atop the rankings. Perennial powers Starr’s Mill and Collins Hill are the teams to watch in all classifications. Both are defending champions, and bring back a ton of talent. The Panthers actually beat the Eagles 3-2 in the teams’ season opener.

As the top boys basketball teams in the state make their playoff pushes, teams from the metro area continue to dominate in the AJC’s weekly polls, especially in the larger classifications. Every No. 1 team (with the exception of Class A) is inside or within shouting distance of I-285.
