Members of a historic Savannah church are preparing their sanctuary for a homecoming. Earlier this week, officials from Christ Church Savannah gave officials from Christ Church Episcopal the keys to the 171 year-old downtown church building they both claimed in court. The two factions split in 2007. Sunday's service will be nothing out of the ordinary for the returning congregation.

Georgia's highest court has sided with the national Episcopal Church in a property dispute with the oldest church in Georgia. The Georgia Supreme Court voted 6-to-1 to uphold a lower court's October 2009 ruling confirming the national Episcopal Church's claim to historic Christ Church in Savannah. The dispute arose after members of the local congregation decided in 2007 to leave the Episcopal Church, which they said was straying from Biblical teachings.

The Georgia Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case involving two Savannah congregations arguing over the same historic church. The more conservative and liberal wings of Savannah's Christ Church split three years ago, sending rival factions to court over who owns the 173 year-old sanctuary on a downtown Savannah square.
