A veteran Georgia Public Broadcasting producer has handed in a letter of resignation following the hiring of former Republican state Sen. Chip Rogers. Ashlie Wilson Pendley, who has been employed with the network for 15 years, is quitting her job in protest after it was revealed that Rogers, of Woodstock, will be paid $150,000 annually — nearly three times her salary.

A special election has been scheduled to fill Chip Rogers' seat in the state senate following his abrupt resignation. The vote is scheduled for Jan. 8.

Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers has repaid $8,500 to his campaign account amid questions over how he paid for publications sent to residents in his district. His attorney said Rogers broke no laws but was making the reimbursement to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers said at a debate with his Republican primary challenger Wednesday night that he supports letting the free market decide if gambling should be allowed in Georgia. He said he will vote “yes” to support casino gambling in Georgia on a nonbinding ballot question later this month.

$270 million in federal loans will fund one of the state’s largest-ever transportation contracts. The type of project is what one state lawmaker calls the future of transportation building in Georgia. By adding toll lanes, the Northwest Corridor project could relieve congestion on a 30-mile stretch of Interstates 75 and 575 north of Atlanta. It’s a public-private partnership that could cost up to $1 billion. The public’s share would be about a third of that amount.
