    Fourth-seeded North Cobb upset top-seeded Camden County in a 6-2, 5-4 sweep in the first round of the state playoffs. In Game 2, the visiting Warriors needed two sacrifice flies in the bottom of the eight to win - one to tie the game and the other for the win. After giving up two runs to trail 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning, North Cobb scored on Casey Page's bunt single, followed by Rachel Bartoe and Kaitlyn Lawrence's sacrifice flies.

    Camden County is considering using state prisoners as firefighters. The plan would put two state inmates into up to five county fire stations, doubling the number of firefighters per station. County officials say it could save hundreds of thousands of budget dollars with unpaid inmates filling otherwise paid shifts.

    National Park Service officials say, they won't let people stay in historic homes on Cumberland Island. Leasing the homes is a point of contention at the National Seashore. Wilderness advocates want fewer people living on the island. Historic preservationists, however, worry, the Park Service doesn't have the resources to keep the homes in good condition.

    Camden County has issued a state of emergency banning people from using fireworks in anticipation of July 4th celebrations. With a drought characterized as “extreme,” the county hopes to avoid fires. Wildfires have already burned a quarter million acres this year in south Georgia.
