New to Georgia-- the Lone Star tick, common in the state of Texas which carries a flu-like infection -- and more sightings of The Gulf Coast tick which carries a disease similar to the bacteria that causes Rocky Mountain Fever.
Four people in Georgia have been sickened by an outbreak of salmonella which is suspected of causing illnesses in 19 states. WSB Radio reported the Georgia illnesses, which are part of a growing outbreak which has sickened 90 people across the nation.
Influenza season begins today. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is encouraging all people over six months of age to get vaccinated. This year’s vaccine is for three strains of the flu including H1N1.
