As more and more games are played the process of deciding who makes the cut becomes harder each week. The scale of potential vs. production is starting to tilt in the direction of production on the field, however you simply cannot ignore potential and who a player projects to be at the next level.

Ware County fell to No. 10 in Class AAAA following its loss to Lowndes. I was tempted to take the Gators out altogether and throw in the Raiders of Mays, but Ware County’s schedule is a bit tougher than the Mays schedule to date.

The No. 1 Buford Wolves have won four straight state titles but have lost at least one game each of the last two years. The one loss in 2009? The Lovett Lions upset Buford that year 28-21 to end Buford’s 32-game winning streak.

The biggest moves in this week’s poll came in the highest two classifications as Colquitt County fell following a 16-8 loss to Warner Robins and as East Paulding shut out Kell 34-0.

Last week, Chamblee came away with a few lopsided victories over Lithonia and Redan. Against Lithonia, Kelly Strychalski went for 4-for-4 a home run and two triples; in one inning she accomplished the feat of driving in seven batters

The final hoops rankings are out and, as you might've guessed, the No. 1 teams are all state champs. While the chalk (or favorites) ruled much of the weekend, Norcross pulled off one of the biggest upsets in state finals history by beating goliath Milton in the Class 5A boys final.

On the final day of 2011 GHSA basketball, a total of six state titles were handed out. Unlike Friday there were no upsets, and most of the games were one-sided. In the Class AAA boys state title game, Columbia pulled away from Butler in the fourth quarter to win their second consecutive championship by a score of 56-37.

In eight semifinal games played on Thursday in Macon and Gwinnett, the winner of each game calls metro Atlanta home. Meanwhile, six teams from outside the metro area saw their seasons come to an end. In Class AA, Buford and GAC flexed their hoops muscles as each school qualified boys and girls teams into the finals.

Tonight at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, Buford pulled what could be called the upset of the GHSA boys state basketball tournament.The Wolves took down perennial power South Atlanta, which had been ranked No. 1 in Class AA for much of the season.
