The first round of the playoffs tonight centered around upsets involving Gwinnett and Cobb County teams. In one of the biggest upsets in the state tonight, Brookwood went to No. 2 Lassiter and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season in overtime. No. 4 seed Mill Creek traveled to north Fulton and upset Alpharetta with a last-second field goal, while Parkview traveled to east Cobb and beat Walton in overtime.

Brookwood doubled up Central Gwinnett, Centennial won its second in a row, Hughes continued its magical run by beating Newnan, Walton edged rival Wheeler, Westminster blew out Wesleyan and Johns Creek got past Lambert in some of the highlights in tonight's gridiron action. With Walton coming off a big win against a respected foe and McEachern rebounding from a defeat by an elite program, it will be interesting to see how the two teams play in Friday’s game.

The Walton Raiders and Brookwood Broncos have helped close out the last two GHSA football seasons in the Georgia Dome with Brookwood claiming the 2010 Class AAAAA title and Walton falling in last year's final.

The latest polls show plenty of movement across the Georgia softball landscape. In the Class AAAAAA poll, Collins Hill remains in the top spot with Brookwood behind, but Kennesaw Mountain jumped up a spot as did Archer.
