Carter's Inc. is bringing more than 600 full-time jobs to north Georgia at a new distribution center expected to open in Braselton this summer. Gov. Nathan Deal and Carter's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Casey made the announcement Wednesday.

City leaders in the northeast Georgia town of Braselton are asking Mayfield Dairy's parent company to reconsider its decision to close its visitor center. Officials announced earlier this month that the dairy's visitor center, which has been toured by thousands of Georgia schoolchildren over the years, would close by Oct. 31.

Authorities say the visitor center of a dairy which has been toured by thousands of Georgia schoolchildren over the years will close this month. The Athens Banner-Herald reports that the Mayfield Dairy's visitor center in Braselton will close Oct. 31 after nearly 2 million visitors passed through during the more than 14 years it was open. spokesman for Mayfield owner Dean Foods Co., said it was a difficult decision to close the visitor center but keeping it open had become economy unsustainable.

A racetrack that’s been a fixture for three decades in northeast Georgia is scaling back its schedule. Lanier National Speedway in Braselton is losing its battle with the economy. So the track's owners says weekly races won't be offered anymore. Instead, special races and other events will be held at the track.
