For the first time in its 80-year history, Augusta National Golf Club has female members. The home of the Masters has invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first women in green jackets when the club opens for a new season in October.

The chairman of Augusta National said the course will be ready for the first round of the Masters on Thursday despite a "significant" storm that downed "several" trees and left several bunkers "completely washed out." Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus teed off as ceremonial starters at 7:40 a.m.; they were joined for the first time by Gary Player.
