An annual Easter egg hunt in central Georgia has been canceled after organizers say parents became violent while trying to collect eggs for themselves and their children in past years. This will be the first time in years that the Easter Bunny won't be visiting children during the annual egg hunt at Central City Park in Macon.

Head Start agencies in 13 central Georgia counties will offer free testing for lead poisoning to children enrolled in the programs. The testing is being provided because the area has the state's highest incidence of lead poisoning of young children.

The Georgia State Properties Commission has approved a lease agreement with the Development Authority of Bibb County that will keep the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame open in Macon for the next year, with an option for two additional one-year contracts.

Parents of kids who miss school in Bibb County could lose welfare benefits. Local leaders say trauncy is a major problem in Macon where only 44-percent of kids graduate from high school. State officials say Bibb County is the only county to ask about tying benefits to attendance.
