U.S. Rep. Austin Scott (R-Georgia, 8th) was one of a minority of Republicans who voted against the Budget Control Act of 2011. As civilian Defense Department employees undergo unpaid furloughs, Scott says Congress must reverse the federal budget cuts known as sequestration.

Advocacy groups not affiliated with a political party have pumped money into some Georgia races this year. The fact that their donors are hidden bothers advocacy groups. Georgia’s hotly contested 2nd and 8th Congressional districts are the recipients of most of the non party affiliated money.

A Tift County Judge will decide on December 6th whether to unseal the divorce records of Austin Scott. Scott is running against Congressman Jim Marshall in the 8th Congressional District. Race is considered one of the most competitive in the nation.

The candidates for Georgia’s 8th and 12th congressional district debated last night on GPB. The 8th district around Macon has been hotly contested and the debate between incumbent Democrat Jim Marshall and Republican Austin Scott got contentious at times.
