Georgia Democrat John Barrow survived a Republican challenge Tuesday to his East Georgia congressional seat. Barrow of Augusta defeated Grovetown State Representative Lee Anderson 53% to 46% according to unofficial results. Anderson's GOP was counting on recently redrawn district lines to carry him to victory.

A community activist, armed with a chain saw and spray paint, is trying to send a message to gangs and drug dealers in an Augusta neighborhood. Woody Merry used the chain saw Monday to chop down a Bradford pear tree that he said was the meeting spot for drug deals in the neighborhood.

A hospital spokeswoman says a physician who was considered to be Augusta's oldest living doctor has died. He was 102. He had been hospitalized since a fall at his home over the weekend.
