An Atlanta Falcons executive says the team will consider moving to a suburban location if it does not strike a deal to build a new downtown stadium. Falcons President and CEO Rich McKay said Wednesday the team would have no choice but to consider a suburban site if negotiations on the downtown Atlanta site break down.

The Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority have selected five architectural firms as finalists to design a proposed $1 billion retractable-roof stadium. GWCCA officials said finalists will prepare proposals including conceptual designs and will be interviewed within 30 days.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority is scheduled to meet Monday morning to review and vote on a framework around a new downtown stadium for the Atlanta Falcons. Board members will discuss a possible deal on the proposed stadium, which could cost between $948 million and just over $1 billion.

The Atlanta Falcons have changed their mind and want to build a new retractable-roof stadium that would result in the demolition of the Georgia Dome. The Falcons and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority revealed Wednesday that they are negotiating a deal.
