    Officials in Athens have temporarily suspended car booting in the downtown area as they examine due process issues related to the controversial practice. Athens Downtown Development Authority board member Erica Cascio said the suspension does not mean parking tickets won't be written or fines won't accumulate.

    A Savannah startup investor says more is merrier when it comes to investment in promising Georgia businesses. The comments come after Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill creating a state-backed venture capital fund. John Morisano started the SLAAM startup incubator last year to keep startups from having to leaving Savannah to find investors.

    Executives of a steel fabricator say they plan to add more than 150 jobs over the next three years at its Dawson County plant to supply parts for a new Caterpillar production facility near Athens. Impulse Manufacturing will produce parts for several small excavators that will be produced at the new Caterpillar plant.

    The annual Twilight Criterium race will take place Saturday in Athens, rain or shine. “It may dampen spirits slightly, but everything will go on,” said Bill Overend, chair of the Athens Twilight Foundation. Cyclists have been taking part in the 80K race since 1980. The criterium wraps around downtown Athens and has grown from just 40 cyclists to now 150. Overand said the event has become a huge boost for downtown businesses and they will be prepared for the inclement weather.

    Dozens of northeast Georgia residents say their mail was stolen in a mystery that involves plastic bags full of mail found in the bed of a pickup truck. Police said Monday they were investigating the thefts of mail from 48 victims in southeastern Athens-Clarke County.

    Leaders of Action Ministries Athens are vowing to continue to serve the people of Athens-Clarke County in the wake of a fire that damaged Oconee Street United Methodist Church. The fire Monday night severely damaged the church, which has been home to the group's Our Daily Bread program that serves food to the needy.

    Fire officials are investigating a blaze that heavily damaged a church that dates back more than a century in Athens. Authorities said the Oconee Street United Methodist Church caught fire Monday night. Firefighters began battling the blaze around 10:15 p.m.
