Leaders of Action Ministries Athens are vowing to continue to serve the people of Athens-Clarke County in the wake of a fire that damaged Oconee Street United Methodist Church. The fire Monday night severely damaged the church, which has been home to the group's Our Daily Bread program that serves food to the needy.

A million dollars is flowing into north Georgia to help veterans avoid becoming homeless or find a place to live if they are. Two Georgia nonprofits are partnering to serve at least 400 veterans and their families in 16 counties stretching from Rome to Athens.

Two Atlanta-based groups will receive more than $1.3 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to fight homelessness in veterans. The grants are part of a more than $100 million national effort to keep veterans from becoming homeless and to help homeless veterans.

A Georgia nonprofit group is launching a new program to provide summer lunches to poor kids who normally would get meals at school. The program launches first in Richmond County on Monday.
