After months of campaigning, the 2016 presidential election is kicking off in earnest with next week's Iowa Caucuses.

The Republican race has turned into a fierce battle between Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, while Bernie Sanders could pull out an upset victory on the Democratic side.

Throngs of journalists are in Iowa to cover caucuses, including GPB’s Savannah bureau chief, Sarah McCammon.

This year, she’s working for NPR, covering the presidential campaign from the primaries through the general election.

She spoke with GPB’s Bradley George about her experience on the campaign trail in Iowa.
