Rep. Allen Peake (R-Macon) said his bill already has the support of more than 100 lawmakers and of regular Georgians.

Brian Underwood's son was born with a rare skin disease, but currently doesn't qualify for cannabis oil treatment.

"I am puzzled why some people are against cannabis oil but somehow think that morphine, methadone, and Dilaudid are OK. If cannabis was developed by a pharmaceutical company, there is no doubt it would be widely used," Underwood said.

The bill's opponents also have a chance to speak this week. The measure has already drawn opposition from Gov. Nathan Deal, the head of the GBI, and top law enforcement officials.
