Law enforcement officials in Georgia are looking to discourage people from boating while drinking this holiday weekend. The Brunswick News reports the state Department of Natural Resources is teaming up with the Coast Guard in an effort called Operation Dry Water.

It’s a year-round operation, but rangers will be out in force this weekend. Officers say enforcing sober boating laws is key to preventing tragedy.

Alcohol is the leading contributing factor in recreational boating deaths and accidents, according to the Coast Guard.

Georgia’s blood alcohol level limit for boat operators is the same as that for car drivers: .08.
