A former judge from south Georgia is facing charges of making false statements and violating her oath of office.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Fulton County grand jury handed up a two-count indictment Wednesday against Amanda Williams.

The former chief judge of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit resigned in disgrace in 2012 amid charges that she locked up some drug court defendants indefinitely, cutting off access to their relatives and lawyers.

The newspaper says the state Judicial Qualifications Commission also accused Williams of using “rude, abusive and insulting language” to some of her drug court defendants.

She stepped down after the judicial watchdog agency filed more than a dozen formal ethics charges against her.

Williams came under scrutiny in 2011 when the public radio show, This American Life, broadcast a segment about her drug court.
