The retrial of suspended DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis is set to begin Monday. He is accused of pressuring county contractors to make campaign contributions,

Ellis originally faced 13 charges, including extortion, bribery, coercion, theft, and perjury. Four of those charges were dropped last week with no explanation, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

A gag order prohibits prosecutors and defense attorneys from divulging details about the decision.

His first trial in October lasted six weeks and ended in a hung jury. With the dropped charges, the retrial may move faster.

AJC reporter Mark Niesse talks with GPB’s Celeste Headlee about the retrial. Listen here.
