TNT Academy in Stone Mountain was thrust into the national spotlight this week because of racially-charged remarks its principal made at the school’s graduation ceremony. The school’s student body is made up of a nontraditional population; the students are home schooled and only attend formal classes at the academy occasionally. Reporters with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are investigating schools like TNT, which operate outside the public school structure in Georgia. The state has 140 such schools.

Education writers Jamie Sarrio and Eric Stirgus join host On Second Thought Celeste Headlee to talk about their examination of nontraditional schools in the state. Celeste also talks to Milton Gaither, Professor of Education at Messiah College.
