Kate Pierson has been a staple of Georgia’s music scene since the 1970s. If you don’t recognize the name, you’re sure to know the voice. She took rock and new wave music by storm as a member of Athens-based band The B-52’s. Kate has also been one of the most accomplished collaborators in the business. She’s paired with artists like Iggy Pop, The Ramones, and another Athens group--R.E.M.

Fans of her work are in for a real treat with her first solo album, Guitars and Microphones.

Pierson joins On Second Thought host Celeste Headlee to talk about the lost art of live singing, her vocal preservation techniques, and her Athens musical origin story.

Listen to On Second Thought weekdays at 9am on your local GPB radio station, hear past shows on Soundcloud, or follow the show on Facebook.
