We’ve got fast cars, craft beer and a cathedral choir all in Middle GA! That’s right, there is always something to do in Middle GA and local musician Betsy Fitzgerald shares her juicy list with us.

Fired Works
Presented by Macon Arts Alliance

The Tenth Annual Fired Works Regional Ceramics Exhibition and Sale is kicking off this evening with its popular Preview Party from 6-9 pm (tickets $50 at door). Attendees will enjoy complimentary beer and wine, live music, and food while meeting 65 artists from Georgia and the Southeast. In addition, guests have the opportunity to purchase pottery before the sale opens to the general public. In addition to workshops throughout the week, Macon Arts Alliance has added the Pottery Road Show on Sunday, April 12th, where you can bring your pottery pieces to be appraised by professionals starting at 2 pm on a first come, first served basis. It only costs $5 per piece and you receive free admission. If you were waiting to purchase tickets to the special Farm to Table dinner or to sign up for any of the kids workshops, they are sold out but make sure to check their website early next year so you don’t miss out on those great events.

The Magnolia Street Soap Box Derby

One of my top favorite events that really kicks off the spring season is the annual Magnolia Street Soap Box Derby. Where else can you go see local businesses and organizations fly down the street in handmade cars as fast as they can? This always-entertaining event features three different races, food trucks, music and more. New this year is the Gravity Racing Challenge featuring STEM students in Bibb County. If you come down, don’t forget to cheer on our very own GPB car!

St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir
Presented by Music and the Arts at Vineville United Methodist Church

England’s St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir is regarded as one of the best in the world, and regularly leads services of national importance such as the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen in 2012, and the funeral of Baroness Thatcher in 2013. The Cathedral Choir is in residence at St. Paul's throughout most of the year, and is composed of 30 boy treble Choristers, eight probationers and 12 Vicars Choral - all professional adult singers who sing alto, tenors and bass. At the heart of the Choir's being is the singing of Choral Evensong each day, with Choral Mattins and Sung Eucharist on Sundays. The Choir frequently gives concerts and broadcasts as well as producing critically-acclaimed recordings and touring across the world. We are very lucky to be one of the cities they are visiting on their upcoming US tour. Their Macon concert will feature music performed on state occasions of celebration or national mourning and a survey of music that ranges from traditional works to modern day commissions.
