Students at the University of Georgia's law school are getting a new opportunity to learn about environmental law in coastal communities.

The university says Georgia Sea Grant is partnering with UGA's Carl Vinson Institute of Government to create the new Georgia Sea Grant Legal Program.

It aims to give UGA law students a chance to work with legal and policy experts on environmental issues facing policymakers in coastal Georgia. The selected students work as paid legal fellows during the academic year or summer.

Two students have been chosen as inaugural spring 2015 fellows.

Program director Shana Jones says the fellows will gain valuable real world experience working with multiple stakeholders to understand environmental challenges in coastal Georgia.
