The Georgia House has passed a bill aimed at producing millions of dollars for the state's transportation needs after a full day of discussion about last-minute changes.

The bill passed on Thursday 123 votes to 46.

The proposal by House GOP leaders has gone through numerous revisions since its introduction in late January, aimed at placating local government officials and lawmakers reluctant to vote for a higher tax on gasoline.

The bill converts Georgia's mix of taxes to a 29.2 cents-per-gallon tax dedicated to transportation. It also eliminates the state's credit for electric vehicle purchases and a tax break on jet fuel for airlines.

The proposal now goes to the state Senate. Gov. Nathan Deal and other legislative leaders made transportation funding a top priority for the 2015 session.
