Kennesaw Winter Snowy Roads

Forecasters warned of the potential for black ice on roads and highways as nearly nine inches of snow blanketed parts of northwest Georgia.

A winter storm moved into the region Wednesday afternoon, coating much of the region with snow and sleet. Temperatures were expected to hit below freezing overnight into Thursday morning, raising the possibility of black ice coating area roads. Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Natalie Dale said drivers are still asked to limit travel if possible.

The National Weather Service estimates that 8.9 inches of snow fell in the Trenton area in northwest Georgia. Dalton recorded 6.8 inches; Blairsville saw 7.1 inches and Canton got 3.4 inches.

The storm prompted the closure and delayed opening of schools and government offices Thursday.
