A fallen Macon-Bibb Firefighter was laid to rest Monday.

Lt. Randy Parker died while fighting a house fire last week when a floor gave way, causing Parker and other firefighters to plummet into the home’s basement.

During the public funeral at the Macon City Auditorium, Suffolk, Va. Fire Chief Cedric Scott remembered Parker as a friend who liked good natured competition.

“He loved to make fun of my sports picks. He asked who I was going to pick in the Super Bowl. I said Seattle. He said ‘Wrong again buddy,’” Scott said.

Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins recalled what other firefighters told him of their last words with Parker.

“They gave him a little dap,” Riggins said. Parker had just been given a new command at the firehouse before he died.

“He was about to move to the A side of the structure and he said, ‘Let’s go do this.’,” Riggins said.

Chef Cedric Scott summed up Parker.

"If you ask anybody about Randy Parker, they’ll say ‘Randy was just a good guy.'," Scott said.

The other firefighters who were injured in the accident that killed Parker are recovering. The accident is still under investigation.
