Ruckdeschel/Will Harlan

Most descriptions of Cumberland Island conservationist Carol Ruckdeschel begin with the same details: she eats road kill, wrestles alligators, and lives in a ramshackle cabin she built herself. Biographer Will Harlan says they often share a common end as well: “you know, she killed a man.” Intrigued by the rumors, Harlan spent 19 years shadowing Ruckdeschel for his book, “Untamed.” He’s speaking at the Savannah Book Festival tomorrow Saturday. GPB's Emily Jones asked him what strikes him most about the woman he’s called “the wildest woman in America.”
