Gov. Nathan Deal says Georgia's tax collections for January rose 3 percent compared to the same month last year.

He says that so far in 2015, tax collections total about $11.5 billion, up 5.2 percent vs. the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Individual withholding payments dropped 2.2 percent or $18.75 million in January, vs. January 2014, while tax refunds for last month shot up $41 million or 221 percent.

Deal says corporate tax refunds dropped 10 percent or about $1.75 million in January. Corporate income tax return payments rose 119 percent in January to $2.85 million.

Gross tax revenues for the current fiscal year rose to $14.88 billion, an increase of 5.9 percent from $14.05 billion in January 2014
