Atlanta Streetcar

A telecommunications company is suing the City of Atlanta and a public transit agency over streetcar construction costs it argues it should be reimbursed for.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports AT&T Georgia is suing the city and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Agency over the cost of relocating equipment including cables, wires and conduits before the streetcar was built.

AT&T spokesman Lance Skelly says the company has sought more than $5 million in reimbursement for more than two years and hasn't reached an agreement with the city and MARTA. The suit says a 1965 law requires MARTA to reimburse companies that have to move because of transit expansion.

Atlanta city officials say AT&T isn't entitled to any reimbursement. MARTA officials say the agency doesn't comment on pending litigation.
