The Macon-Bibb Commission reaffirmed support for building the East Bibb County Fire Station.

Yet the vote Tuesday may not mean that the new firehouse for the east side of the county is any closer to happening.

"It didn't accomplish anything. We still have to find the money to put the personnel in there, we have to find the money to put the equipment there," said Public Safety Committee Chairman Scotty Shepherd.

In late 2013 government officials had a groundbreaking ceremony for the fire station at Donnan Road near Jeffersonville Road.

But construction hasn't begun and neighbors in East Bibb County and commissioners representing the area want to know why. Commissioner Elaine Lucas put forward the resolution reaffirming the commitment to build the firehouse as a way to push the project forward.

The resolution today said Macon-Bibb government would seek the funding in fiscal year 2016. Shepherd did say that the consolidated government is still interested in trying to find money to get the project going because "the people there deserve it."
