Tornado reavaged home in Ringgold, Ga.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in northwest Georgia.

Meteorologist Alex Gibbs says the tornado touched down Monday around 7:40 p.m. in Ringgold — about 15 miles southeast of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Gibbs says the storm's peak wind speed was 110 mph and the twister was 100 yards wide at its widest point.

Gibbs says the tornado was on the ground for less than a minute but snapped and uprooted dozens of trees and caused damage to several homes.

At least four homes were damaged. Some had windows blown out and another house lost part of its attic and roof. No injuries have been reported.

Ringgold is part of an area forecasters have dubbed “Tornado Alley” by forecasters because it has been struck by twisters multiple times before. In April 2011, EF3 tornadoes tore through the area. Many homes and businesses were destroyed.
