City Of Rome To Honor Wife Of Woodrow Wilson
Primary Content
The City of Rome is honoring Ellen Axson Wilson.
She became the first First Lady from Georgia when her husband, Woodrow, became President in 1913.
Mrs. Wilson died 100 years ago this past August only weeks before a planned visit to the town where she grew up. Now, Rome is having that homecoming anyway with an exhibit of her art and a gala this weekend.
To learn more about Ellen Axson Wilson, GPB's All Things Considered host Rickey Bevington reached out to Erick Montgomery, who wrote her biography for the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
