Family, Ferguson Community Gather At Funeral For Michael Brown

Two weeks after Michael Brown was gunned down in Ferguson, Missouri, thousands are expected to gather Monday for Brown’s funeral at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis.

In a brief message Sunday, Michael Brown Sr., Michael Brown's father, said he appreciated all of the support from the community, and asked that residents take a break from the protests as a sign of
respect for his son's funeral.

Since the events began in Ferguson, communities around the country have rallied in solidarity of Michael Brown. This past weekend, college students in Savannah held a rally on Bay Street.

Community leaders from Georgia have also traveled to Ferguson. DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander headed to Ferguson to help restore community-police relations Alexander heads the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and also has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.

Pastor Léonce Crump, Jr. of Atlanta's Renovation Church also planned to go there Ferguson to connect with the faith community.

Micheal Brown was shot 6 times Aug. 9 by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. He was unarmed.
