Saturday, Democrats from all over Georgia will gather in Dublin for the party’s state convention. The event comes just three months before what could prove to be a landmark election for Democrats.

Chair DuBose Porter said the party has a strong slate of candidates in 2014 lead by U.S. Senate hopeful Michelle Nunn and gubernatorial candidate Jason Carter.

“We’ll have a chance to reintroduce them and talk about the issues that are important to us—education, transportation, the environment—things that are Democratic issues,” explained Porter.

While the audience will be made up of the party-faithful, Porter said the convention will give Democrats a chance to energize supporters and reinforce their message.

The venue will also be important. Porter said the party has hosted most of its recent events in the metro Atlanta area and this will be a chance to reach out further.

“We’ll be able to talk about issues that affect people in a very personal level when you get out in a rural area like this,” said Porter. “But those same issues are just as important in the metro areas as well.”

The Republican Party of Georgia will host its next convention in Athens in May 2015.
