Two Georgia Children Dead In Separate Accidental Shootings By Other Children
Primary Content
Two Georgia children have died in what appear to be accidental shootings at the hands of other children.
Multiple media outlets, including Morris News Service, report that a father in Waycross is facing charges after police say his 10-year-old daughter was shot and killed by her 12-year-old brother.
The Ware County Sheriff's office says 33-year-old Joshua Scott Jowers is a convicted felon who was not allowed to have a gun.
Deputies say Powers and his wife were working and had left their two children alone at home.
They say the 15-year-old boy was trying to make sure the 12-gauge shotgun was not loaded, when it accidentally fired and fatally struck the girl on Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened the same day that a 15-year-old boy shot and killed his 11-year-old playmate while handling a gun. Savannah police say the victim, a boy, died Friday night.
The 12-year-old was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.
Corrections: Updated to reflect correct age of boy is 15.
