Macon DJ Roger Riddle and Y-O Latimore of Poetic Peace Arts join us to talk about fun things to do in Middle Georgia over the weekend and beyond.
Roger's picks for Dec. 5:
Christmas at the Hay House
It's Christmas time and what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to drop in on the celebration at one of Macon's most beloved historic homes. Christmas at the Hay House kicks off this Saturday, December 7th with a full day of beautiful, old fashioned Christmas fun.
Along with the self-guided tours of the wonderfully decorated house, there will be crafts, caroling and music from elementary school performers, visits from Father Christmas, and my favorite part of it all, hot chocolate and cookies! The Christmas fun runs from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are $15/adult, $10/child, free for children 5 and under.
The Hay House is asking that you call ahead for reservations. Call 478.742.8155 and visit hayhousemacon.org for more information.
Macon Pops Holiday Concert
The first Macon Pops concert was a huge success and a lot of fun. City auditorium was beautifully decorated. Everyone there looked beautiful. Everywhere you turned people were dancing, laughing, and having a good time. There was even a conga line! Now THAT'S a party!
Macon Pops sprang into being from the minds of Macon's own Steve Moretti and his good friend and collaborator Matt Catingub, after many fun musical sessions doing similar shows in other cities.
This time they present their holiday concert, featuring vocals by Atlanta's Maia Nicole and a special performance by Macon's own Floco Torres. I hear Floco Torres will debut a special "Macon Christmas" rap song. Morretti and Torres have worked together once before producing the award winning song, "Cherry Street (Downtown)."
This event is almost sold out, so get your tickets as quick as you can. Go to MaconPops.com for ticketing and more information on the series.
Y-O picks for Dec. 5:
Racing at the Macon National Dragway
Drag racing happens to be my favorite type of racing. It's the one where the cars, bikes or whatever zooms down a sticky strip of road that's usually one- eighth or a quarter of a mile in length.
Sunday, you can take your need for speed to the Macon National Dragway in Jeffersonville for Street Nite with arm drop racing from the shutdown area of the track. Gates open at 1p.m. Test and tune starts at 2 p.m.
There will be two classes to enter. One is the Xtreme Street Car slicks and the other is RWYB with D.O.T. approved tires - All Heads Up Racing. Your vehicle must have working lights - head, turn and tail, mufflers, full interior, D.O.T. approved tires, tag and insurance. $25 Entry Fee 10 Car minimum $250 to the winner.
Street racing is definitely safer at the Macon National Dragway, 460 Woodland Road in Jeffersonville. Sunday, gates open at 1 p.m. Log onto their Facebook page - Macon National Dragway.
Middle Georgia Pampered Ladies Ultimate Expo
The average person enjoys tender-loving care. Honestly, some of us hard-working women deserve it. So, the Middle Georgia Pampered Ladies are throwing their first annual Middle Georgia Pampered Ladies Ultimate Expo, Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Armory Ballroom in downtown Macon.
If you're a woman who wants or needs to focus on self, this event is especially for you. It's themed "A Gift For Me." There will be lots of networking, food, massages, facials and other beauty services along with plenty of vendors.
Tickets are $15 which include admission, meal and a raffle ticket for the First Annual Middle Georgia Pampered Ladies Ultimate Expo, Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p. m. at the Armory Ballroom, 484 First Street, downtown Macon.
