Mercer University football remains perfect at home after Saturday afternoon’s game against Jacksonville University.

The Bears eked out a victory against the Dolphins, winning 45-42 in front of an energetic crowd of over 9,000 at home.

Mercer fought back from an 11-point deficit late in the fourth quarter.

The winning touchdown came on a sensational trick play, where quarterback John Russ faked a running handoff to ultimately sail the ball into the end zone.

JT Palmer snagged it and managed to stay in-bounds to give the Bears the lead.

"We faked the run, and the safety bit down on that, and I was able to get behind him," Palmer said. "And from there it was just, you know, pitch and catch. Thank goodness John has a great arm and I was able to grab it so touchdown."

Russ almost didn’t expect to pull off the play.

"It was a nice call," Russ said. "I thought, you know, it was gonna be an easy touchdown. So I mean I almost messed it up and JT made a heck of a catch. And the line blocked their butts off and they made me look good and JT was just amazing."

Mercer’s 9-1 startup program will try to add to its impressive five-game winning streak. They take to the road this Saturday at Marist College in New York at 1 p.m.
