Veterans Day is Monday, Nov.11, but communities across Georgia are hosting events throughout the weekend honoring those who have sacrificed for their country. Here's a list of Veterans Day events, starting on Friday.
On Friday, November 8th:
10a.m.-11 a.m.: The Covington Career Center will hold Veterans Appreciation Day. 7249 Industrial Boulevard NE, Covington, GA
On Saturday, November 9:
9a.m.-Noon: Veterans of the Vietnam War will be recognized at Peachtree City’s 2013 Veterans Day Observance hosted by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing. The program will be held during the flying museum’s third annual Veterans Day Open House. Both the open house and program are free to the public. 1200 Echo Ct. , Peachtree City, GA 30269
10a.m.: The North Georgia Veterans Day Parade will be held in Dalton. The parade starts at 501 W. Waugh Street.
9a.m. - Peachstate Aerodrome is holding its 7th annual Honor Our Veterans Day Program in Williamston. It will be held in conjunction with the Veterans Day Fly-in. There will also be a special recognition of all Vietnam Veterans to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the last troops leaving Vietnam. The fly-in starts at 9a.m. at the Peachstate Aerodrome. 349 Jonathan’s Roost Road, Williamston, GA.
11:11a.m.: The annual Veterans Day Parade will be held in downtown Atlanta. It starts on Peachtree Street, south of Ralph McGill/ Ivan Allen Boulevard and heads toward Centennial Olympic Park.
1p.m.: A tribute to veterans will be held at the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park. The park is located on Lake Blackshear in Crisp County, west of Cordele. It was established in 1931 as a memorial to U.S. Veterans. 2459 Hwy 280, Cordele, GA 31015
Sunday, November 10th:
6p.m :The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 671 will hold a Veterans Day program Sunday at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Emmett Park, Savannah. There will be music by the 3d Infantry Division Band Brass Quintet.
Monday, November 11th:
9a.m.: The Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta will hold a Veterans Day ceremony in the nursing home courtyard. 1101 15th St, Augusta, GA 30901
9a.m-1p.m: The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center will offer a mini-camp teaching children ages 5 to 11 the meaning and importance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices soldiers make daily. At 10am there will be a Paver dedication ceremony on Heritage Walk for commemorative pavers installed since Memorial Day. Baltzell Ave, Fort Benning, GA 31905
9:30a.m.-11:30a.m.: The City of Atlanta holds a Veterans Rally featuring a flag ceremony by the North Atlanta High school, Atlanta StoryCorps, and an exhibit of art and memorabilia curated by Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Val Archer at the City Hall Atrium. 55 Trinity Avenue, Atlanta GA 30303
10a.m.: The Veterans Council of the Golden Isles will honor Vietnam Veterans on St. Simons Island. The event begins with a parade along Malloy Street from the athletic fields to Neptune Park on the waterfront. The council will pay tribute to the 21 men from the area who died in Vietnam at 11a.m. at the Neptune Park grandstand.

11a.m.: A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Linwood Cemetery. Walnut St Macon, GA, 31207

11a.m: A wreath-laying ceremony honoring veterans will be held at Warner Robins City Hall. 700 Watson Blvd Warner Robins, GA 31093.
11a.m.-2p.m.: The Museum of Aviation will have special briefings and displays. At 1pm they will have cake for veterans. 1942 Heritage Blvd, Robins AFB, GA 31098
3p.m.: Free concert at Vet Fest 2013 across from the Museum of Aviation Ardagh Group Field. 1044 Booth road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
3p.m.-4p.m.: The Southeast Georgia Health System will host a Veterans’ Day recognition. The ceremony will include readings of letters to veterans. Attendees will get the opportunity to participate in the Holiday Mail for Heroes program, writing personalized greeting cards to military installations, Veterans hospitals and other locations in time for Christmas. 3p.m.-7:15p.m.:Walk of Heroes Veterans Memorial at Black Shoals Park, 3001 Black Shoals Road off of Bethel Road in north Rockdale County.
4p.m.: A Veterans Day salute will be held at Fort Hawkins. Maynard St & Emery Hwy Macon, GA 31217
4p.m.: The University of North Georgia will honor veterans during a military review set for 4 p.m. Nov. 11 on the university's Dahlonega Campus. The event is free and open to the public and will take place on the Gen. William "Lipp" Livsey Drill Field. 5:30 p.m.: The American Red Cross and Change 4 Georgia will host a Veterans Day program at the Cumming Regional Readiness Center at the Georgia National Guard Armory. 100 Aquatic Circle, Cumming, GA 30040
6p.m.: The Atlanta History Center holds a Veterans Day commemoration, hosting Stories of Sacrifice, highlighting veterans’ personal stories.
