Mercer University’s football team is looking to bounce back from their first loss in San Diego last weekend.

The Bears will take on fellow Pioneer League team Valparaiso University, down from Indiana.

Despite last Saturday's loss to the University of San Diego, the Bears still rank second in the country in rushing defense and sixth in overall defense in the FCS.

The Valparaiso Crusaders opened their season with three consecutive losses and are currently 1-4. A victory against Mercer would mean their first multiple-win season since 2008.

Mercer quarterback John Russ didn’t manage to throw a single touchdown pass in the loss last weekend, but his odds should be better against the Crusaders. They rank last in pass defense in the Pioneer League.

Kickoff is at noon in Macon.
